BUDDING artists won a competition after imagining how the borough could become more environmentally friendly.

The Community Artists Competition, hosted by Haringey Green Party and Collage Arts, picked the winners last Saturday, which were judged by a number of artists including, James Lloyd, Tiernan Douieb, Sharon Small and Karen Whiteread.

Rosie Chomet, 22, works in Wood Green as an illustrator and designer, won first prize for her piece, which was made from tree leaves.

She said: “I felt compelled to enter, since it addressed issues I feel passionate about.

“After reading through the brief, I spent several days researching, sketching and experimenting before deciding on my final piece, which I created using mixed media and Photoshop.

“It depicts people enjoying life outside, such as picnicking and walking their dog, and doing environmentally-friendly activities such as planting trees and cycling.”

Jordan Williamson works in Haringey and won the under-25’s category for his piece, “The Dream”.

The 21-year-old said: ‘When I first read the requirements for the competition I thought about creating a piece that was based around the pollution and the two different futures that could happen.

“Then one day I was watching the news and there was an article about the homeless people in Britain and the different charities that are trying to help them.

“So I decided to create a piece of work that would perhaps raise awareness about the homeless, which in turn fit in with the brief. It was the second digital painting that I have produced so when I found out I was surprised and happy.”
