A £2 billion regeneration scheme for Haringey moved closer to beginning as the council narrowed down its candidates for a business partner.

The Haringey Development Vehicle, due to start up next year, will result in at least 5,000 new jobs, a new town centre for Wood Green and thousands more jobs for the area in the next 20 years, according to the council.

In January, the authority begun its search for a development partner for the scheme and after producing a shortlist in March have narrowed it down to three firms.

They are listed property group Lendlease, construction firm Morgan Sindall with Affinity Sutton and Circle Housing and house management group Pinnacle with Starwood Capital and Catalyst Capital.

Whoever is selected will have a 50/50 partnership with Haringey Council to run the programme.

Leader of the council Claire Kober said: “Today we are a step closer to appointing a partner to deliver one of the biggest regeneration programmes in the UK.

“This programme underlines our ambition for Haringey and will transform our borough and the role it plays in London, with thousands of new jobs and homes for current and future residents.”

Three businesses are now left in the running to partner with the council as the scheme begins as the shortlist was announced on Wednesday.

The HDV’s programme will also be supported by major improvements to transport links which could include at least four Crossrail 2 stations.

Earlier this year, an independent report from Bilfinger GVA, who are advising the council alongside Turnberry Real Estate, suggested the borough was set to enjoy the fastest growth in jobs over the next 20 years.

This was higher then the figures shown for Westminster and the City of London.

A decision on the preferred bidder is expected to be announced at the start of next year.
