The family of a teenager whose murderer was convicted today have said “too much young life is being lost.”

Adrian Carpenter was found guilty on Wednesday, July 20, at Woolwich Crown Court of stabbing and killing 17-year-old Gary Scott from Tottenham.

He had already admitted possession of a knife and drug offences.

Another man, Jermaine Reid, was found guilty of manslaughter and drug offences.

In a short statement, Gary Scott’s family said: "Our kids should be burying us, not us burying our kids. Too much young life is being lost."

Carpenter, 30, and Reid, 28, both of Victoria Road, Stroud Green, will be sentenced tomorrow (July 21).

Detective Chief Inspector Nicola Wall, who led the investigation, said: "This underlines the danger and risk involved in carrying knives. A young man has tragically lost his life."

At 11pm on December 1, police were called to Marquis Road, and found Gary, who had been at a party in Enfield with friends earlier in the evening, who had been stabbed. He was taken to a central London hospital where he died.

A post-mortem at Haringey Mortuary on December 3 gave the cause of death as a stab wound to his left leg

Carpenter and Reid had met up with Gary at around 9pm, but had argued on the basketball court in Marquis Road, where the murder happened.

The pair fled but were arrested on the evening of December 3. They were interviewed by police but gave no comment to all questions asked.

In prepared statements they both admitted to being at the scene, and Carpenter later admitted carrying a knife and stabbing Gary.
