A woman has been given life in prison for murdering her partner.

Gyuldzhan Hadzhieva, of Northumberland Park, Haringey was sentenced at Wood Green Crown Court on Monday (August 15) to serve a minimum of 16 years behind bars.

The 38-year-old was found guilty of killing 32-year-old Shenol Erol Ali at their home.

While no motive is known, the Metropolitan Police said they were told he had planned to leave Hadzhieva.

Police and the ambulance service were called at 11.30am on Wednesday, February 3 to reports of an injured man and woman at the Northumberland Park house.

The man, Mr Ali, had been stabbed several times and was pronounced dead the scene.

Hadzhieva also suffered multiple injuries and was taken to hospital in a critical condition. She was arrested on suspicion of murder on February 8, but stayed in hospital for 11 more days before being taken into custody.

The nature of her injuries have not been made public, but Detective Chief Inspector Andrew Chalmers, said they seemed to have been “self-inflicted”.

He said: "Whilst the motive behind the murder remains unclear, one thing is certain, Hadzhieva inflicted multiple injuries on her partner in the room their shared.

"Whether she planned to kill herself or hoped to pin the blame on Shenol, we may never know. However, she now faces a lengthy prison sentence for her actions that day."

Police found the hallway leading to the room where the couple lived was covered by a CCTV camera, which showed no one else had entered the room at the time of the attack.

Hadzhieva claimed Mr Ali had attacked her but refused to admit she had stabbed him, even in self-defence.

She was charged with murder on February 20, and after a trial found guilty on August 12.
