A new doctor’s surgery scheduled to open in June will not be completed until the end of this month.

Leaflets and flyers said the new practice in Lebus Street, Tottenham Hale would open at the beginning of this summer and gave people details on how to register.

However, the surgery remains a building site, with wire fencing, wooden pallets and warning signs scattered around the site.

In a joint statement, Haringey Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and NHS England have apologised, and set a new opening date of August 31 for the surgery.

Tottenham Hale resident Martin Ball said the surgery has been needed in the area for a long time, and the most recent delays are frustrating for those living nearby.

He said: “A new doctor was promised as part of the original village development. But has not been provided until now. Over the years there has been much talking about it.

"This all reveals the reality of regeneration; the community wait years for the promised facilities while developers get their tower of profits as a priority."

Haringey CCG – responsible for organising and implementing healthcare in the borough – said patients are still able to register for the surgery, even if it is not open yet.

Cassie Williams, assistant director of primary care quality and development at Haringey CCG: “We are really sorry that the opening of the new GP practice in Tottenham has been delayed. Unfortunately, there have been a number of things which have taken longer than expected to ensure that the building is ready to house the new practice.

“Everyone is working very hard to make sure that the building is completely ready for patients and we expect it to be open on August 31.”
