An MP has praised a hospital trust after it received a “good” inspection report.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) gave the second highest rating to the Royal Free London NHS Trust, which looks after three hospitals, including Chase Farm and Barnet Hospital.

Joan Ryan, MP for Enfield North, also said she has asked for a meeting with the trust chairman, David Sloman, to discuss the ways it can be further improved.

The Trust’s three hospital sites, which also include the Royal Free in Hampstead, have all been rated good, with the report saying “overall the service patients receive is effective, responsive and compassionate” and they “found examples of safe care”.

However, the CQC report also says: “there is room for improvement in urgent and emergency services and medical care at the Royal Free Hospital […] and medicine at Chase Farm Hospital.”

Areas for improvement included the need to meet the national standards for the 62-day cancer wait times, and to reduce the number of outpatients’ appointments which are cancelled with less than 6 weeks’ notice.

Ms Ryan said: “It is a real achievement that all three of the Trust’s hospitals are offering a good service to patients in my constituency and elsewhere.

“I pay tribute to the hard work and dedication of the frontline medical staff as well the leadership shown by the senior management team at the Trust.

“However the safety of patients is paramount, so I will be seeking assurances about how and when the CQC’s identified areas for improvement will be delivered.”
