A REFURBISHED sixth form centre has been described as a “whole which is greater than the sum of its parts”.

The new building at Winchmore School Sixth Form, in Wilmer Way, was officially opened this week.

The college, at the Broomfield Campus, is one of four on the site including Bowes Southgate Green Primary School, Broomfield School and West Lea School.

Cabinet member for education, Ayfer Orhan, joined staff and governors to tour the new school.

She said: “It is a unique situation that we have four schools coming together to make the most of the opportunity that this school site brings and widening the provision for all age groups in this part of the borough.

“By converting and extending facilities we have created something that I believe is example of partnership working for authorities across the country.

“This is one instance where it is absolutely true to say that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.”

More than £2.7million will be spent on the campus over the next two years.

It will offer a range of academic and vocational subjects for 200 pupils, including A-levels in computing, English language, geography, physics and BTEC subjects.
