A SCHOOL has been commended for the work it does in the community.
Honilands Primary School in Enfield was given the Leading Parent Partnership Award.
It runs a series of schemes and extra curricular classes to engage parents in their child's education.
Ralph Silverman, headteacher, said: “We had to jump over many hurdles to get it. We run a number of free courses and some of them are to support adults support their children. It’s been very successful.”
The school has been running a free parent college since 2012, which includes a number of classes including a focus on healthy eating and functional skills.
Mr Silverman added: “We are the biggest employer in this area. There’s no centre to this community, so I suppose we now are.
“It’s important that the children see their parents achieving. We are raising their aspirations.”
