A care home worker who hasn't taken a day off sick in 18 years has been awarded for her commitment.

Margaret Achilleos, who works at The Spinney care home in Chingford, was given the home's "Heart of Gold" award for 2017 in a ceremony yesterday (Wednesday, November 1).

The prize seeks to recognise employees at the home who show dedication and commitment to providing good care for its residents.

Margaret said: “I am totally over the moon and being nominated this year’s Heart of Gold Ambassador is totally unexpected.

"I enjoy my job so much, especially working with such a great team her at The Spinney.

"The residents make every day so special. My husband keeps telling me to retire, but I would not want to leave the residents and the team!”

Nominations for the award came from residents and their relatives, co-workers, social workers and local health professionals.

Margaret was then chosen from the list of nominations by a panel of previous Heart of Gold award winners from all the other homes in The Spinney’s group.

Jacky Fitzpatrick, manager of The Spinney said: “Margaret has been with us at The Spinney for over 18 years.

"During that time her work has been exemplary and she shows enormous commitment – she has not taken a single day off sick in all those 18 years.

"She is a worthy winner of this year’s Heart of Gold."
