Leyton Orient has got behind Waltham Forest's bid to become the first-ever London Borough of Culture.

Players from the club showed their support for the campaign by signing their names onto a large display board unveiled before their match against Gateshead FC on Tuesday, October 24.

O's fans who attended the game were also encouraged to lend back the bid by signing a pledge at WFculture19.co.uk and following the hashtag #WFCulture19 on Twitter.

Orient owner, Nigel Travis, said: "As a club that embraces all parts of our community we are delighted to be backing Waltham Forest’s bid to become London Borough of Culture.

"Like sport, the arts are a fantastic means of bringing people together, celebrating our lives and making the very most of the talents we each have."

Waltham Forest is one of several boroughs to submit bids to become the first Borough of Culture before the December 1 deadline.

The winning borough will be announced in February.

Waltham Forest Council leader, Clare Coghill, said: “Netting the support of Leyton Orient F.C. is a great boost as we aim for the goal of becoming the very first London Borough of Culture. We know that their backing will impress the referees making the final decision - Leyton Orient F.C. is an integral part of the Waltham Forest community and there’s no substitute for getting it involved."
