Two robbers armed with an metal bar stormed a house during a "terrifying" burglary.
The suspects, both wearing balaclavas, were able to gain entry to a property in Epping Road, Ongar at around 6.45pm yesterday (Sunday, November 5).
Once inside the home, the pair grabbed a woman and punched her in the face, causing swelling around her eye.
They were armed with a metal bar and were able to leave the house with jewellery and watches.
They have been described as being white, aged in their 20s and were wearing black clothing.
Detective Sergeant Ben Elliott, of Loughton CID, said: "This was a particularly terrifying incident where men have gained entry to the property through an unlocked back door and walked upstairs to search bedrooms.
"They have then grabbed the occupant, threatened and assaulted her before taking personal and valuable possessions."
