A charitable trust is proposing to celebrate the 400th anniversary of a charter which led to the running of a market in Enfield Town.
The Old Enfield Charitable Trust, which manages the Enfield Market, has come up with ideas to commemorate King James I signing the Enfield Market Royal Charter in 1618.
The charter gave permission to The Old Charitable Trust to hold a Saturday market in the marketplace.
Moneys collected from the market are awarded to people living in The Old Parish of Enfield as personal, education and community grants.
A Charter Fayre on Sunday May 20 in association with Enfield Town Residents Association is the main event.
There will be craft stalls, art and photographic exhibitions, poetry recitals, a well-being and children’s grass area in St Andrews Church where they can ride ponies, have their face painted and hear stories.
In July the return of Market Beach is planned.
And, on September 22 and 23 the Old Vestry Office will be part of Open House London.
Musical and artistic events are planned to take place throughout the year.
