A park in Enfield has been awarded more than £300,00 to help reduce flooding to over 200 homes.

Albany Park has been given £346,000 to reduce the risk of flooding by restoring a river as well as creating new wetlands and meadow habitats.

The properties have been identified as a flood risk if Turkey Brook breaches its banks.

The regeneration work will create extra bends in the river, slowing the river’s flow.

Enfield Council’s cabinet member for the environment, Cllr Guney Dogan, welcomed the move.

He said: “This is a fantastic project that will provide residents with peace of mind by protecting their homes from flooding and enabling the community to enjoy this spectacular space for generations to come.

“While protecting over 200 homes from flood risks and improving the brook itself, we also hope to unite people with nature and bring the community together to learn about sustainability in urban parks.”

Commenting on the new funding, Mayor of London Khan, said: “For too many Londoners, nature simply doesn’t feature in their daily lives.

“That’s why we’re aiming to become a National Park City, with more than half of our capital green. Today’s funding will draw even more people into our outstanding parks by making green spaces more attractive and better for the environment.”
