With election fever faded to a dull drone, my attention has turned to another, dare I say 'more important', title race.

In another battle between reds and blues my hopes are that it’s another blue day.

Because for the first time in ten years or so, the Premier League champions will be crowned on the final day of the season. And my allegience (if not my money) is with Chelsea.

No one would have thought we’d do it. Critics and plenty of fans alike spent the majority of the season berating Avram Grant for every decision he made as if any attempt to drum up the support or belief offered to his predecessor was utterly futile. However close we got to closing the gap on Manchester United it was still the impossible dream.

Except while everyone turned their backs on Chelski the team, and importantly Grant, they were all proved wrong. For not only do we have a chance of walking away with the ultimate English footballing trophy — winners of the Premier League — but little over a week later the boys in blue will be making their way to Moscow to battle it out once again with Man U, this time for the Champions League.

A nothing season? A poor leader at the helm? Big money players showing no flare or skill? Hardly. There’s nothing between Utd and Chelsea for either title and if anything the Blues have the advantage this weekend. It’s Utds to lose and they’ve got to play away from home.

Everyone is praising United, some even branding them the best starting 11 the club has ever seen. Plenty are brandishing this Chelsea team as lacklustre and boring. Except this amazing Manchester Utd side might only win the Premier League on goal difference and have as much chance of winning the ultimate European prize as their poorer London rivals.

So perhaps it’s time to believe in Grant’s side just a little bit more and show him some credit for taking the team further in Europe than King Mourhinho managed.

I still don’t think Chelsea will win on Sunday but I might put a little bet on them for the Champions League. Come on you Blues.
