TWO social workers sacked by Haringey Council for their role in the Baby P case have had their social care register suspensions extended.

At separate GSCC independent panel hearings last week, the General Social Care Council (GSCC) agreed to ban Gillie Christou — the team manager who approved the decision to return Baby P to his home — from practising social work for a further nine months.

Maria Ward, the social worker in charge of Baby P's case, was banned for a further six months.

A spokeswoman said the extension was necessary to give the GSCC more time to assess whether or not the pair should be subject to a conduct hearing.
