An Edmonton man who survived the King's Cross Tube bomb has spoken of his harrowing experience.

The man, who does not wish to be named, gave the terrorist bombers the message: "Sorry, not this time I am still alive."

He had been travelling into London with his girlfriend on the Piccadilly Line when the bomb ripped through the first carriage.

He said: "I thought I was going to die. The smell of smoke was overwhelming and the carriage was filled with it. Everyone was covered in soot and dirt.

"I think everyone was thinking about the threat of fire. Although everyone on our carriage survived the initial impact, we were waiting for flames and ultimately death."

He captured some of the horror of the day's events by taking pictures with his mobile phone in the tunnel as passengers filed out.

He added: "The thing that will live with me for the rest of my life will be the sounds of screams of Oh God, help me' and the injured banging on the windows of carriages trying to get out.

"It was only after I reached ground level that the full realisation of what had happened hit me.

"I am just so lucky I was not one of the tragic 21 who died in the tunnel that day."
