Two New Southgate men appeared before magistrates amid tight security on Monday in connection with the failed London bombing attempts of July 21.

Helicopters circled overhead as the gang, facing charges over the attempted terror attacks, were transported from high-security Paddington Green police station to Belmarsh prison in south east London to appear before a special sitting of Bow Street magistrates.

Yasin Hassan Omar, 24, of Curtis House, Ladderswood Way, faces a raft of charges including conspiracy to murder and attempted murder, possession of explosives and conspiracy to cause explosions.

Siraj Yassin Abdullah Ali, 30, also of Curtis House, is charged with failing to disclose information which could lead to the arrest of someone involved in terrorism and assisting a person who has committed an arrestable offence.

Facing the same charges as Omar were two other alleged members of the failed bombing team Muktar Said-Ibrahim, from Stoke Newington, a frequent visitor to Curtis House, and Ramzi Mohammed, from North Kensington.

Manfo Kwaku Asiedu, from Finsbury Park, faces conspiracy to murder and possession of explosives charges. Asias Girma, 20, from Stockwell, and Wharbi Mohammed, 22, from Notting Hill, faced lesser charges of failing to disclose information.

All men were remanded in custody. Ali will appear before Bow Street magistrates again tomorrow, while Omar will appear at the Old Bailey on November 14.
