Residents will have the opportunity to see some of the borough's historic treasures as a host of buildings open their doors to the public next month.

Open House London, on the weekend of September 17, will allow vistors to explore the cream of Enfield's rich heritage, including one of the oldest buildings in Edmonton Salisbury House.

Built in 1625, the Grade II-listed Tudor manor house in Bury Street West was converted into an arts centre in the 1950s. Visitors can look around the house between 12noon and 4pm during the weekend.

Victoria Thornton, founding director of Open House London, said: "Experiencing a building in the flesh, inside and out, can help you understand it and assess it in a way you never could from a picture.

"If Open House can get Londoners to care passionately about their city and its future buildings, we will really have achieved something."

Other buildings opening their doors include Forty Hall, Broomfield House, Bowes Road library, the Chicken Shed Theatre, the Winchmore Hill Friends Meeting House and Charles Lamb's Cottage.

The Priory Hospital in Southgate will also be welcoming guests along with the Royal Small Arms Factory and the former Edmonton Girls Charity School.
