TOTTENHAM Hostpur fans protested outside White Hart Lane yesterday afternoon over the club's potential move to the Olympic stadium in Stratford.

More than 500 fans gathered in Bill Nicholson Way ahead of the team's clash with Manchester United, to vent their fury that the club is considering uprooting from its north London home and heading to the East End.

High Road, Tottenham, was brought to a standstill and players were forced to use a different entrance to avoid demonstrators.

During the match, one fan who climbed in front of television cameras to display a banner reading, "Say No To Stratford Hotspur" was kicked out the stadium.

However, fans have praised her bravado captured on video while hundreds of home supporters sang: "North London is ours. Say no to Stratford. North London is ours."

Commenting on the video, one supporter wrote: "Buy that fan a pint".

Tim Framp, one of the organisers behind campaign group We are N17, said: "It was largely peaceful and brought together a lot of fans and groups who are all against a move to Stratford. We got lots of support for our petition, so it was definitely successful."

In less than two weeks, on January 28, the Olympic Park Legacy Company will choose its preferred bidder before it goes to London Mayor Boris Johnson for approval and then on to the ministers for sport and local government.

The bid by Spurs, propped up by entertainment giant AEG, will go head-to-head with a bid from West Ham United and Newham Council who want to make the stadium their new home.

West Ham have won the backing of UK Athletics who support their vision of retaining the world-class running track, unlike Spurs who plan to demolish the stadium and instead redevelop athletics facilities at Crystal Palace.

Watch the footage Spurs fans are hailing as an "iconic moment".
