A MAN was chased by a dog and robbed for his mobile phone as he walked through Tottenham Hale Retail park at the weekend.

The 25-year-old had just left Tottenham Hale railway station and was making his way across the car park, off Broad Lane, when he passed two men walking a tan-coloured dog at 11.10pm on Saturday night.

He felt the men turn around and, conscious they were following him, made a run for it and was immediately chased by the suspects.

One of the pair unleashed the dog who attacked the victim, leaving a deep bite to his arm and causing him to drop his phone.

The suspects ran off and the victim was treated at Homerton Hospital, in Hackney, for his injuries after police and paramedics arrived at the scene.

Detective Sergeant Noel Stoddart, of Haringey police, said: "The suspects used a dog to inflict injuries to the victim in order to obtain a piece of property that they decided they wanted. Any use or threat of violence will not be tolerated and the level of violence used in this incident is all the more unacceptable by its nature.

“This is an unusual incident and I urge anyone with information to contact Crimestoppers so that we can identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice.”

He urged residents to be aware as they travelled across the borough and not get distracted by mobile phones or music players.

DS Stoddard added: “Consider keeping your phone out of sight and using generic black headphones when talking on it so that it can't be spotted so easily and the make can't be identified."

The suspects are described as black men, about 6ft tall and were wearing dark clothing. One appeared to be in his early 20s and was of stocky build, with long black braided hair. The second suspect appeared to be in in late 20s and had short black hair.

The pitbull-type dog was described as tan with a white underbelly.
