A former Whyteleafe Village Councillor known as Mr Good Evening who subjected a radio DJ to a Twitter hate campaign has been jailed for eight weeks.

Samuel Wilkins, 33, Godstone Road, Whyteleafe, sent obscene messages to comedian Iain Lee and his wife, Absolute Radio producer Eloise Carr, over a 16-month period before his arrest in December last year.

Westminster Magistrates Court heard on Friday December 2, how Wilkins, who resigned from his post at the council on Monday December 5, described Mr Lee as an 'ugly c**t' and a 'pathetic little 'p***k' in messages sent from a Twitter account called SWowns.

The court heard how Wilkins, who worked for watchdog Ofcom, would call Mr Lee’s radio show, say 'Good Evening' in a high pitched voice and hang up.

Later when the DJ moved radio stations he began receiving the same calls.

Mr Lee said: “At first the calls were very repetitive but no problem. There was a brief pause but after a few months he continued calling from a withheld number.

“I let him come on the radio show and either he would hang up or I would cut him off.

“The phone calls started becoming a little bit too regular and getting a bit abusive.

“When Mr Good Evening was refused access to the show the calls started coming from a mobile phone with a different voice, but it was obvious it was the same person.

“The calls were aggressive, demanding and seemed to imply a sense of entitlement that he should be on the show.”

The court heard he would call up to 10 times a show and also sent Mr Lee and Ms Carr at least three emails each week ,each ending with 'It’s Goodbye from Mr Good Evening'.

The emails, sent between November 2008 and May 2010, were from at least three addresses with the name Sam Wilkins, with one under the alias of Eileen French Wilkins' grandmother.

He was sentenced to eight weeks in jail for two charges of harassment without violence.
