Severe travel delays are expected next Wednesday when the Olympic Torch travels through Haringey.

Haringey Council is warning people to “plan ahead” to avoid the disruption, which is expected to last all day, as much as possible.

Tottenham High Road, Lordship Lane, Wood Green High Road, Hornsey High Street and Priory Road will either have one lane closed or traffic slowing measures enforced while the torch is carried down each road.

The Flame will start its Haringey route in Tottenham at 5.20pm on Wednesday, July 25. It will then finish at Alexandra Palace at approximately 6.45pm.

Alexandra Palace Way and its lane for the W3 bus will be entirely closed all day to make way for the finale of the torch procession at Alexandra Palace.

Haringey cabinet member for economic development and social inclusion, Councillor Alan Strickland, said: “It will be fantastic to see the Olympic Flame coming through Haringey but it will mean road traffic is disrupted and anyone trying to get to an airport for their holidays or heading for a timed appointment is advised to take this into account when planning travel.”

“Even where traffic is moving it is likely to be very slow around the Torch Relay routes. Bus services coming in from central London may be curtailed at certain points, such as Turnpike Lane, and will take some time to get back to a normal service.”
