ALEXANDRA Palace bosses have launched an open appeal to ice skaters to help the venue smash the world record for the longest conga on ice.

Skaters in Nottingham who also have their eye on the Guinness World Record raised the stakes by vowing to get 136 in the human train.

The record currently stands at 107.

Now bosses at the landmark venue are determined to get as many people taking part as possible to ensure they trump this figure by a large margin.

Rebecca Kane, managing director of Alexandra Palace Trading Company, said: "We are determined to break this record and want as many local people as possible to come forward to help us do it.

"I urge anyone who can skate to a reasonable level and who can be free to join us on the morning of Thursday, November 12, to help us put Haringey on the map."

Participants will be offered a free morning skating session and prizes will be handed out for best costume on the day.

An official adjudicator from Guinness World Records will be present and the organisation will also be filming the attempt for TV. Skaters, of a reasonable standard, are asked to contact Ally Pally ice rink on 020 8365 4386 to register to take part.

Those with their own that skates are asked to bring them along, but skates will also be available on the day. Non-skaters are welcome to cheer their friends or family on.

The record attempt takes place at 11am.
