A TEXTILE enthusiast stitched up Transport for London by upholstering a bus shelter near Alexandra Palace last week.

The standard-issue red seats – the cause of many a numb bottom - were cushioned and frilled while even the roof was dressed up and adorned by a flounced pelmet.

It is believed to be the work of guerilla textile graffiti artist known as Mrs Smith to coincide with the Knitting and Stitching Show held at Ally Pally, in Wood Green, on October 7.

Neil Robinson, a fan of the new-look shelter, said: "I got off the W3 bus only to be confronted by the astonishing sight of a luxuriously appointed bus shelter, padded seats, frills and all.

"It looked so comfy that I'm sure it would make the usual wait for the bus quite a pleasure. However this has happened it totally transformed my day and put a real spring into my step.

"As a frequent bus traveller I can only hope that TFL give us more of these, please."

A Transport for London (TfL) spokesman said: "The installation was put in without the knowledge or permission of anyone at TfL. Whilst we do appreciate and recognise the time and effort that was made, we would prefer requests are made to us prior to installation."

Mrs Smith works in secret and targets unusual locations to adorn with soft furnishings which does not cause any damage to the object she covers.
