HARINGEY schools have achieved improved GCSE results for the seventh year running.

A total of 72 per cent of students were awarded five or more GCSEs with 48 per cent achieving these grades including core subjects in English and maths.

In Haringey, this represents a 2.3 per cent improvement on last year's results and a 19.5 per cent improvement since 2003.

Both subjects are important when school leavers apply for vocational courses, A-levels and are even considered on university applications.

Council leader Claire Kober said: "Congratulations to students across the borough who have achieved such excellent results. Well done too to all the teachers, staff, parents and guardians who have supported our young people through their studies.

"As was the case with our A-levels, these results mean yet another year-on-year improvement performance. The results are the best demonstration possible of what can be achieved when schools work together to improve attainment and match the ambitions of young people in Haringey."

After being named one of the school's whose GCSE performance was among the worst in the borough, Park View Academy pupils achieved a 44 per cent including maths and English.

Woodside High School, in White Hart Lane, also improved from 38 per cent to 47 per cent in this year's round of results.
