A JOURNALISM academy and magazine based in Tottenham is calling out to Haringey's budding writers to join its trainee scheme.

Catch 22, based at the Bernie Grant enterprise building, in Town Hall Approach Road, works with young people hoping to start a career in journalism and needs 15 new trainees, aged 18 to 30, to enrol in October.

The magazine's ethos is to provide a solution for young people caught in a 'catch-22' - not being able to get a foot in the door due to a lack of existing experience and aspires to end elitism in the industry.

Many of the its past trainees hail from a variety of ethnic minority communities and social backgrounds.

It works in partnership with 15 of the country's leading publishers including Conde Nast, Trinity Mirror, and The Economist.

Tokunbo Ajasa-Oluwa, managing director of Catch 22, said: "Our model is 'win win' as the media industry has been seeking ways of addressing its lack of diversity for some time.

"From our experience, the industry is eager to engage talent that does not only come through the traditional routes, but before Catch 22 they did not know how to  go about effectively accessing them."
