THE inquest into the Tottenham shooting that sparked the London riots is due to open in Barnet today.

After another night of violence, looting and arson across the capital and other parts of Britain the country will get a fresh chance to consider the moment when it all began.

Mark Duggan, 29, was shot by police in Ferry Lane, Tottenham, at around 6.15pm on Thursday, after armed officers stopped the minicab he was traveling in.

Violence descended on the area on Saturday following a peaceful march by Mr Duggan’s family, who have condemned the rioting, and community leaders.

An inquest will open and adjourn at North London Coroners Court, in Wood Street, High Barnet, this morning.

The attempted arrest by the Met’s specialist firearms team was preplanned by Operation Trident, which specialises in tackling gun crime in the black community.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is investigating.
