A supermarket destroyed in a fire during last year’s riots will be opening its doors again this week.

The Aldi supermarket, in High Road, Tottenham, was destroyed in last summer’s riots and will officially be reopened on Thursday by MP for Tottenham David Lammy.

To celebrate the occasion there will be a number of events taking place outside the new store, built on the same site as the old shop, including a steel band and face painting.

Manager Adam Jordan, said: “After over a year of preparation following last year’s disturbances, we’re ready to welcome customers into our new Aldi store.

“The team and I are really looking forward to re-engaging with the local community in and around Tottenham, and re-establishing the strong links which were created when the store originally opened.”

The old store, which served 11,500 people a week, was torched by looters during the violence on August 6, 2011.
