A supermarket torched during last year’s riots is finally back in business.

Tottenham MP David Lammy officially reopened Aldi in Tottenham High Road yesterday as more than 500 shoppers eagerly waited outside.

The supermarket has been built on the same site as the previous store, which was burned to the ground by rioters on August 6, 2011.

Store manager Chris Pawson said: “The team and I are really looking forward to re-engaging with the local community in and around Tottenham, and re-establishing the strong links which were created when the store originally opened.”

A steel band played music to welcome shoppers back to Aldi, and the first 100 people received golden tickets to win prizes including a television, a radio and shopping vouchers.
