MUSICS most talented stars visited a Tottenham studio to inspire teenagers to pursue a career in the industry.

Never River Studios, in Eade Road, invited a host of famous guests including BBC Radio 1Xtra presenter Sian Anderson and Tottenham MP David Lammy.

People aged 18 to 25-years-old were given an insight into the star-studded world, taught skills and given tips.

They were also given a song-writing session with musician Little Simz and an industry talk with DJ Semtex, from Sony A&R record label.

Representatives from Creative Access – an organisation helping young people find work – were also on hand to run C.V workshops.

DJ Sian Anderson said: “When I began my career I was frequently attending seminars and listening to the paths of others and advice from successful media professionals.

“It helped me shape my career and become the business woman I am today and the radio presenter I am today.

“I look forward to sharing my experiences down at the UK Music event and passing my knowledge and experience on to others who will go on to prosper too.”

The event also featured a song writing workship with Little Simz, a talk on careers in music publishing and how to be a session musician.

The ‘Introduction to the Music Industry’ event was held by U.K Music (an umbrella organisation for the U.K industry) in partnership with British Black Music on Friday, September 25.

Opened in October 2014, the 14 room rehearsal space was commissioned as part of a scheme to develop young musical talent and is the first of its kind in London.

Since then the UK Music’s national Rehearsal Room scheme has been helping youths pursue their career choices.

Chinyere Ugwu, community development director for Homes for Haringey said, “Homes for Haringey’s Project 2020 staff have recruited and supported over 30 young people from the borough, who’ve been involved with the New River Studio - Rehearsal Rooms to date.

“Six bands have formed and the young people are now working towards various qualifications.”
