FAMILIES celebrated the biggest Jewish festival of the year with classic cars and a Victorian steam engine.

The Jewish Community Fun Day was held at Markfield Park, in South Tottenham, on Thursday, as part of the Passover celebrations.

The event was organised by Shmuel Davidsohn, a community activist who wanted children to have a space where they could enjoy their religious holiday together.

He was able to set it up with the help of Haringey Council, Tottenham Police and the Hatzola emergency services.

Mr Davidsohn said: “It was amazing, as big numbers of the community turned out and the weather was beautiful.

“It was the first time we have done it and I feel it was a big success. It was a very nice day and hopefully it will become a regular event for families.”

Both children and adults were given the opportunity to see the working Markfield Beam Engine, a Victorian steam pump from 1886 which is now placed in the park grounds.

Some of the attractions throughout the day also included the chance to look inside classic and modern police vehicles, along with arts & crafts, and bouncy castles.
