A FAMOUS singer gave a campaign against a new waste plant a boost by putting on a fundraising concert.
Soprano Dame Emma Kirkby performed for more than 300 supporters of the Pinkham Way Alliance at St Andrew's Church, in Alexandra Park Road, on Sunday evening.
The Muswell Hill resident was joined for the concert by world-famous lute player Jacob Lindberg, who flew in specially from Sweden for the evening.
The concert raised nearly £5,000 for the alliance's fight against North London Waste Authority's plans to build a major new plant on the side of the North Circular in Pinkham Way.
The group are fundraising in anticipation of a drawn-out legal battle against the plant that they say will bring traffic congestion, environmental damage, and pollution.
