It can take years before a musician has the chance to perform at a venue as large as the O2 Arena, but singers from St Francis de Sales School Choir recently performed there for a Young Voices concert. Choir member Catherine explains what it was like to join Stacey Solomon and other professional singers on its stage.

Recently, I had the excellent experience of going to the O2. My friends who are in the choir with me were extremely excited because it was a good opportunity for us to go there. When I arrived, my face was in shock because I had not known how humungous the O2 is!

The little musicians – the choir – went on a coach to get to the O2 but unfortunately I had a headache on the way there. I had to go to sleep to make the pain go away. Later on, when we arrived at the O2, I was starving because we had been travelling for a long time.

We spent a long time practicing our O2 songs with a man called Dave so when the real concert came and our parents were there, I felt extremely confident. I knew that we would have a really fun time and I also knew that we would sing our choir songs perfectly. The glistening, shining lights flashed before my eyes like twinkling stars.

As Stacey Solomon came up on stage, everyone was cheering loudly and I felt like I was going deaf. She sang beautifully. We met three singers who are amazingly good at singing high and low notes. I was fascinated by the way the professional singers sang (which was brilliant). I wished I could be them, showing my amazing talents!

During the fantastic songs, my friends and I felt so free because we have never had so much fun ever in our lives. There was an awesome dance which made me stand out from the crowd and I was glowing by the end. I will never forget this day.

Tottenham Independent: St Francis de Sales School pupils were amongst 7000 children who sang at the O2 Arena for a Young Voices concert.

Mrs Coffi, who works with Year 5 at St Francis de Sales School, runs a lunchtime club where pupils can learn to dance. She explained to Somto Mekaowulu and Benedict Adjei why she gives up her lunchtime to share this passion with others.
