A late equaliser deprived Haringey Borough of a win on Saturday as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Romford in the Ryman League Division One North.

Borough started the brighter of the two sides and were given a golden opportunity to take the lead when Dean Fenton was brought down in the box.

Adrian Markus made no mistake from 12 yards as he sent the Romford keeper the wrong way to give his side a 14th minute advantage.

They held their lead until the 86th minute before Chinedu McKenzie turned home from six yards out to break Haringey’s resilience.

A draw probably represented a fair result on a day where both sides struggled to create chances and defensive solidity reigned supreme.

Borough were unable to build on their 1-0 half-time lead and spent the majority of the second period on the back foot.

They could even have left the match empty handed as Romford piled on the pressure after pulling level.

The hosts could well have won the match but profligate finishing, which saw them miss two good chances late on, let Borough off the hook.

Borough will look to build on the hard-earned point when they take on Brightlinsea Regent away from home tomorrow night.
