Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Josh Onomah has dedicated England U20’s World Cup victory to former coach Ugo Ehiogu, who tragically passed away earlier this year.

Both Onomah and Tottenham’s Kyle Walker-Peters, who also featured for England on Sunday, were coached by Ehiogu, who worked at White Hart Lane as the club’s Under-23 coach before he passed away in April due to a cardiac arrest.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s strike in the first half ensured that the Three Lions defeated Venezuela 1-0 on Sunday, securing England’s first international title since 1966.

Midfielder Onomah played the full 90 minutes in the final and came close to increasing England’s advantage in the second half, but his strike from distance cannoned off the crossbar.

Speaking to Tottenham Hotspur’s website, Onomah said: “This is for Ugo (Ehiogu,) and everyone back at Spurs.

"Massive credit to Venezuela, they gave us a great challenge, but we dug deep and grafted until the end. That's what our team is about, we find another edge and keep fighting.

“And my shot... when I saw it hit the bar I was gutted I couldn't put the team further ahead and score in the World Cup Final. But all that matters is we still won and I couldn't be happier.

“Full credit to the players and staff and all the support back home for getting us here. It still hasn't sunk in but it was a moment I will never forget for the rest of my life.”
