Pops Mensah-Bonsu has stressed Team GB will be focusing only on the next game in their bid to progress in the Olympic basketball competition.

The Besiktas forward, who hails from Tottenham, netted 22 points last night as the British squad fell to a 95-75 loss to Russia.

The former NBA star believes two wins could be enough to see Britain progress from their group but insisted the focus had to be solely on the next game tomorrow against Brazil.

He explained: “In a group like this you could probably get through with two or three wins. If you get three you are probably definitely going through. With two, there is a good chance too.

“But I am not really looking at it like that. I am just trying to make sure we win the game that comes next.”

On last night’s loss to Russia, he added: “We hurt ourselves by turning the ball over in the back court and a team like Russia is definitely going to convert.

“We felt like our half-court defence was good against them. We felt like they struggled against it, but when you turn the ball over and make them get easy baskets, it is easier for them to build a lead and that is what they did.

“In the second half, we weren’t able to break their lead down because they had such a significant lead. But we will look at the tape, recover and bounce back. We can’t dwell on this game.”
