Tottenham Hotspur narrowed the gap to leaders Leicester City with a thumping victory over Bournemouth.

Harry Kane opened the scoring after just 44 seconds and then doubled the home side’s lead with a cool finish after 15 minutes.

Christian Eriksen then made it three with a simple tap in as the lilywhites maintained the pressure on surprise leaders Leicester City with just seven games remaining.

Mauricio Pochettino selected the same side that comfortably despatched Aston Villa in the league last weekend.

After a testing match against Dortmund in the Europa League last Thursday, Spurs now just have the Premier League to focus on as they go in search of their first league triumph in more than 50 years.

And it took just 44 seconds for Spurs to open the scoring and right the wrongs of Thursday night.

An inviting cross from Kyle Walker down the right hand side found Kane who got in front of Simon Francis and swept the ball home.

There was very little to report by way of chances until the home side doubled their lead and Kane was at it again.

The England striker was slipped through by Dele Alli and made no mistake once one-on-one with Artur Boruc.

The goal was the seventh Alli has set up for Kane in this season, underlining their formidable partnership.

It was party stuff now at White Hart Lane as Kane tried to find Erik Lamela with a cheeky dink over the Bournemouth defence but the ball never sat kindly for the winger.

Spurs fans were on their feet again as Alli flicked the ball home, but the linesman had his flag up after Kane touched on Eric Dier’s cross from an offside position.

Pochettino’s side gave Eddie Howe’s team a footballing lesson in the first 45 minutes and the Bournemouth manager made a double substitution to try and get his side back in the contest.

A swift counter saw Kane find a marauding Walker bursting down the right flank, but he could only fire his shot wide.

Despite seeing more of the ball, Bournemouth found themselves 3-0 down within ten minutes of the second half.

A long-range effort from Kane was fumbled by Boruc into the path of Eriksen who made no mistake from the rebound.

Eriksen was in the mood as he jinked past two Bournemouth players with ease before laying it on a plate for Alli – but the teenager scuffed it wide.

After blowing two opportunities to go top of the Premier League against West Ham and Arsenal, it was imperative that Spurs took six points from Aston Villa and Bournemouth.

Now the North London club take on Liverpool, Manchester United and Stoke in what looks like being a make-or-break three game run.
