Tottenham Hotspur’s young right-back Adam Smith helped England Under-21s to victory on Tuesday night as Stuart Pearce’s side overcame Sweden 4-0.

A brace from Blackpool’s Tom Ince and goals from Liverpool’s Jonjo Shelvey and Sunderland’s Connor Wickham helped Pearce’s side to a comfortable win over their Swedish counterparts.

Smith, currently on-loan at Millwall, was replaced after 75 minutes by Leeds United’s Tom Lees, but not before providing assists for two of the goals.

"It was difficult with the pitch and the conditions but the gaffer said to go out and play and not make excuses with the pitch, that's what we did," Smith told ESPN afterwards.

"Personally, it was a good game for me to get two assists."

Also in action was young winger Kenneth McEvoy, who scored for the Republic of Ireland’s Under-19s in their win over the Czech Republic.

McEvoy played the full 90 minutes as Ireland beat the Czechs 2-1 thanks to a header from McEvoy and Ryan Coombes’ strike.
