Tottenham Hotspur will provide Jurgen Klopp’s first opponents as Liverpool boss at White Hart Lane on Saturday (kick-off 12.45pm), but will do so without five players.

Premier League action returns following the international break but head coach Mauricio Pochettino has only seen his list of absentees grow.

Versatile defender-cum-holding midfielder Eric Dier, one of Tottenham’s early stars of the campaign, is the latest to be ruled out due to a one-match suspension.

The England Under-21 cap joins Nabil Bentaleb (ankle), Ryan Mason (knee), Son Heung-min (foot) and Alex Pritchard (ankle) in missing the visit from Liverpool and their new manager.

There is, however, better news regarding left-back Danny Rose, who was kept out of the 2-2 draw at Swansea City a fortnight ago with a hand injury.

Whether or not the England Under-21 cap will dislodge Ben Davies remains to be seen, though.

Former Borussia Dortmund and Mainz boss Klopp has endured a hellish run-up to Saturday’s meeting, after replacing the sacked Brendan Rodgers, losing striker Danny Ings and young full-back Joe Gomez to season-ending anterior cruciate ligament injuries.

The duo join already lengthy list of injuries which includes Roberto Firmino (back), Christian Benteke (hamstring), Jordan Henderson (metatarsal) and Jon Flanagan (knee).

Philippe Coutinho (groin) and Dejan Lovren (ankle) are also doubts for the trip to north London.

Having already swept aside Manchester City 4-1 at White Hart Lane, defender Kyle Walker – fresh from representing England in their final European Championships qualifier – is looking for more of the same when inconsistent Liverpool - currently tenth - visit.

He told the club’s website: “The work ethic from the first to the 90th minute against City showed what we’re all about.

“Now we need to show that again. We’ve set the bar high in the City game and we don’t want to fall below it.

“Liverpool have been a bit stop-start but they have a lot of talent so we know we need to be right on our game again.”

And having been on England duty with Liverpool players Ings, Nathaniel Clyne, James Milner and Adam Lallana for the past fortnight following Klopp’s appointment at Anfield, Walker knows it is now time to focus on Spurs and put any thoughts of the Reds and their charismatic new manager aside.

He added: “I spoke about it with some of the lads on England duty and we just have to concentrate on ourselves.

“We can’t worry about them and we need to make them worry about us.

“They are coming to our patch so we need to play as we did against City and we won’t go far wrong.”
