Edmonton boxer Spiros Demetriou extended his unbeaten run with a points victory over Jevgenijs Andrejevs at York Hall on Saturday.

Demetriou was awarded the victory after six rounds on points by referee Lee Cook, with the light heavyweight fighter convincingly beating his opponent Andrejevs by 60 points to 53.

The 26-year-old, who owns a gym in Stoke Newington, entered the fight with confidence having beaten Sandor Feka last time out and he started the brighter, planting a heavy left body shot onto his opponent in the first round.

Demetriou’s early dominance continued as he landed jabs, before swinging a left hook which hit Andrejevs in the body.

After being warned for showboating towards the end of the second round, Andrejevs was deducted a point by referee Lee Cook in the third for holding the 26-year-old former weightlifter.

As the fight continued, Demetriou grew in confidence and he landed some heavy punches on Andrejevs, but he didn’t budge and remained on his feet.

With the bout reaching its final stages, the 26-year-old started to pull off some powerful shots as he looked to send his opponent to the floor. Demetriou landed some digging hooks on his opponent’s body, but Andrejevs still didn’t go down.

As the fight reached its conclusion, a right hook punch from Demetriou almost sent Andrejevs to the floor, as he wobbled and got stuck on the ropes, but he managed to carry on and see out the final round.

After six rounds, Demetriou was awarded the victory on points, meaning the Edmonton boxer has now won all four of his professional fights.
