Future Olympic boxing stars will be coming to Haringey this week for Europe’s biggest amateur tournament.

Around 500 boxers from across the continent will be competing at the Haringey Box Cup this Friday to Sunday.

The competition, which takes place in the iconic Alexandra Palace, has featured the likes of World and Olympic Champion Anthony Joshua, Olympic, World and Commonwealth Champion Nicola Adams and Ireland’s 2012 Olympic champion Katie Taylor.

Now in its ninth year, the Haringey Box Cup features 280 high quality bouts across five rings over the three days.

Gerry Willmott MBE, one of the event’s organisers, said: “The Box Cup is an event that celebrates something positive in the community.

“This tournament gets bigger and better every year and 2016 promises to be the best yet.”

Prior to the event, a record turnout of 2,000 students from schools across the capital are expected to attend a ‘Youth Day’ which features representatives from the Army, the RAF, Saracens RFC and the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation.
