A man about to embark on his ninth marathon in seven years will run it for his late dad.

Peter Kay, 56, head of adult services at Bradford Council, is taking part in Sunday's London Marathon as part of a vow he made to run in ten marathons after his father died.

Mr Kay's father endured an eight-year battle with dementia and so has chosen to raise £1,000 for The Alzheimer's Society.

He hopes to complete the final leg of his challenge by returning to the scene of his first marathon in New York.

Mr Kay said: "I've seen the damage caused by dementia and Alzheimer's at close-quarters, both in my work and in my personal life.

"Before my father died he talked a lot about New York so that's what started it. I've been training by doing about 60 miles week and I hope to finish London in under three hours and 45 minutes."

His wife and two daughters are going down to the capital to cheer him on.
