A WINSFORD man who recovered from prostate cancer has organised three events to raise money for new equipment to treat the disease.

Gary Steele, Cherry Crescent, is hoping to raise £12,000 so that people in the area will be the first in the country to have a revolutionary bioscan PSA watch.

Gary, who is chairman of Leighton Hospital Prostate Cancer Support Group, said: "The PSA means they can prick your finger to get a little bit of blood and 10 minutes later give you a result which is absolutely fantastic.

"It is also only the size of a bag of sugar so it can be taken to people out in the sticks or people who find it difficult to get to hospital."

As well as the PSA equipment the support group is hoping to buy a portaflow and multiscan, which are both used in the detection and treatment of prostate cancer.

The first event will be a walk up Mount Snowdon on May 20 and costs £20 including travel.

There will also be a golf competition at Hartford Golf Club followed by a presentation evening including live music and a magician on June 2.

A combined golf day and evening ticket costs £40 although tickets for just the day or night are available.

A fashion show will also take place at Ways Green Conservative Club, Winsford, on June 6 featuring Asda's George line.

Gary said: "We are really keen to get these pieces of equipment and wouldn't it be wonderful if we were the first people in Britain to have it."
