VILLAGERS have pleaded with police to do more to stamp-out anti-social behaviour near their homes following a catalogue of yobbish acts.

The problems have forced them to keep a log of the anti-social incidents plaguing Kempsey, near Worcester, which include: * An historic 250-year-old bridge being slowly "demolished" by vandals.

* Up to 12 youths playing football in the middle * 14 cases of criminal damage including to cars, a * Nine incidents of anti-social behaviour, including yobs throwing stones.

* Yobs breaking into a villager's garden and pouring garden chemicals into their swimming pool.

* Attempts to uproot a lamp-post by attaching it with a towrope to a car.

South Worcestershire police claim the village is among the least affected by anti-social behaviour, but stress they are working with partner organisations to deal with the problems.

Some of the shocking incidents were revealed at a recent meeting of Kempsey Parish Council. Local Police Officer PC Allen Naulls reeled off a catalogue of offences, which had happened since the last meeting in April.

They included continual damage to an historic bridge in The Rocky conservation area, 14 cases of criminal damage - including pulling off car wing mirrors and windscreen wipers and damage to a greenhouse, two incidents of criminal damage to the village shop, theft of a car, shed burglary, nine incidents of anti-social behaviour - including yobs throwing stones, youths congregating at The Rocky and youngsters kicking footballs across the main road.

PC Naulls told the meeting the situation was deteroriating following a six-week quiet spell, but asked villagers to "bear with" officers.

He said officers knew the culprits and had made arrests, but blamed their parents for not taking the problem seriously.

"We make an arrest, go to Worcester (police station), bring them back and within 30 minutes they are back out on the street," he said.

PC Naulls said the parish was among the worst places for anti-social behaviour in his beat area - Kempsey and Alfrick - and was a top priority. He added officers and community support officers would now be in the village during weekends and were liaising with schools, social services and housing associations.

But parish councillors were not happy with the level of work being done to stop the yobs.

Neville Brookes said: "You've asked us to bear with you. We have done. My opinion is it hasn't improved at all. How many arrests have been made in the last three months? I think the gloves want to come off. I don't think the policing is enough. I think we should be arresting a few people."

Villagers are now keeping a log of anti-social incidents, some of which are the same as in the police's own list. Residents in Old Road South, Windmill Lane, Napleton Lane and Plovers Rise have all suffered but the problems are centred around the village's Church Street and the Rocky.

People living in Church Street, who asked not to be named, described the vandalism as mindless and said some acts were clearly premeditated.

They believe youths may even have used a sledgehammer to chip stones and bricks away from the bridge. Much of the debris is now floating in Hatfield Brook.

A spokesman for South Worcestershire police said Kempsey was the third lowest - out of nine -- of those areas affected by anti-social behaviour in the Malvern sub-division.

"In 2005-2006 there were 92 reported incidents of anti-social behaviour, placing Kempsey as the area least affected," he said. "While this rose to 191 in the following 12 months, Kempsey moved up only two places.

"This demonstrates that pockets of anti-social behaviour can frequently be very isolated and focused."

But he said the police were taking the problem seriously and were working hard to overcome the problems, which were being caused by a small group of persistent offenders.
