The beautiful weather has got the carp and tench feeding with gay abandon with big specimens coming out of most Surrey stillwaters, writes Ray Robson.

Dave Grayson, from Esher, has graced my column many times over the years, mostly for his big catches of big chub from the River Mole on his secret paste - salmon paste sandwiches kneaded together.

But he showed he is no back marker on ponds with a 21lb 8oz mirror carp from Beaver Farm.

Dave's new best fell to Carp Company Icelandic Red boilie fished in the margins and popped up a couple of inches.

Paul Lowther proved tench are in a feeding mood at Old Bury Hill by landing five - all over 5lb.

On the main lake at the opposite end to the clubhouse, Dave waggler fished bread flake dipped in banana essence.

Maggot feeder with double white maggot on the hook gave Sean Draper the best day's fishing of his life at Twynersh.

Fishing pit one in the point swim, he banked an estimated 30lb of roach.

"From my very first cast the roach was ravenous," said Sean, who also landed four carp to 8lb. "I had quality roach from almost every cast for two hours with the best just under the 2lb mark."
