IF Tony Kelly (HAS, Mar 30) bothered reading it he would find that CT Riley's letter (HAS, Mar 23) makes no reference to burning people at the stake for saying that the Earth goes around the Sun.

In fact, Mr Riley states that "for centuries scientists lived in constant fear of arrest, imprisonment, torture and burning at the stake if their discoveries contradicted Church doctrine".

However, The Hutchinson Encyclopedia since states that in 1600 the scientist Giorano Bruno was burnt to death at the stake for his adoption of Copernican astronomy, proving Mr Kelly's claims to be wrong.

Having faith is a good thing, but why do people like Mr Kelly assume that if someone dares question or finds lies within the official version, that they are automatically a Communist, anti-Catholic or anti- Christian?

For all Mr Kelly knows, Mr Riley might be one of billions of people of faith around the world who are sick of what has and is being done in the name of their God.
