A pensioner fought off a man who threatened her with a knife.
The 69-year-old victim was treated for shock after the ordeal, which happened at her flat in the Grymes Dyke Court sheltered housing complex in Stanway, near Colchester.
The man had buzzed the entry intercom at about 9am on Saturday, and amid confusion as to what he was saying was let in to the main building.
A short time later, the pensioner realised her front door was open and confronted the stranger in the hallway of her flat.
He held a knife over her head and threatened to kill her unless she gave him money.
The victim said she didn't have any money, and the man became more aggressive in his threats.
She gave him £10, but he persisted and tried to push his way past her and further into the flat.
The woman resisted and, after a brief struggle, the raider fled.
