THE SUN shone down on Penarth Lawn Tennis Club's open day which was held at the club on Saturday, April 14. More than 100 players and spectators turned up throughout the day to enjoy the event.

A dozen three to five-year-olds arrived for the 9.30am start and were introduced to the basics of tennis. In the following hour two groups, spanning the 6-10 age group, ran simultaneously and between 10am and 11am the courts were filled with children playing their favourite tennis games.

While the teenagers attempted circuit training, the younger juniors enjoyed an Easter egg hunt around the clubhouse.

The afternoon saw 30 adults and older juniors enter an American tournament organised by club coach Rob Cunningham. Each player was given the opportunity to experiment with one of the various demo racquets brought along by Brian from Players' Choice, David Lloyd.

The tournament was won by Tom Pegg and Beth Randall - who won in a dramatic one-point shoot out with her daughter Helen. Alongside the afternoon's tennis, Alex Williams set up the barbecue and a fun game of rounders took place on the grass.

PLTC was then proud to host Penarth's first ever Waves' tournament on April 20.

Waves is a fast-moving, addictive team tennis game requiring good communication and quick thinking. Organised by club coach Rob Cunningham, this exciting social tournament was contested by many older juniors and adults alike as well as by many spectators.

The tournament was won by Tom Pegg, Adam Muse and Rhys Elias in a hotly contested, best-of-three, final with Gavin Seymour, Rich Jones and Neil Fox.
