A FUNDRAISING group set up by a young cancer victim is holding an event which aims to give TV stars Trinny and Susannah a run for their money.

The night at the Holden Vale Hotel, Helmshore, has been organised by the family of Catherine Kearney, who died of a brain tumour aged just 24.

Close relatives of the ex-Haslingden High School pupil vowed to continue the work of her charity, Catherine's Crusaders, which she set up while she was fighting the tumour.

Image Matters, which takes place on May 22 and is hosted by image consultant Cliff Bashforth, is the latest of their events.

It follows on from the success of a ball at Horncliffe Mansions, Rawtenstall last year, which raised thousands for the Rosemere Cancer Foundation, in Preston, where Catherine was treated before she died in 2005.

This time half of the money will also go to another charity, Macmillan Cancer Relief, one of Holden Vale's nominated good causes.

Joan, Catherine's mum, who used to live in Broadway, Haslingden, but now lives in Guide, said: "This time we are going half and half, which is nice because it is all going into the same pot really."

And Brenda Bottomley, who is Catherine's aunt and, with her other aunt, Denise Dott, runs Heads Above Hair and Beauty in Haslingden, said Preston-based Cliff should make it a night to remember for all style-conscious people.

She said: "He bills himself as a male version of Trinny and Susannah.

"He will be giving a presentation showing you what to wear and what not what to wear and how to use accessories and he is humorous with it."

Tickets for Image Matters, which starts at 7pm, cost £15 and include a glass of wine, canapes and raffle tickets.

They are available from Heads Above, in Deardengate, Haslingden, Holden Vale Hotel, or by calling Joan on 01254 689931.
