POLICE held a bike-tagging event to encourage people to mark their property and protect against theft.

The free session was held at Runnymede Hall, in Kiln Road, Thundersley, on Friday.

Police and council workers hope to organise more events in the future to try to cut down on burglaries and thefts in the area.

Bikes and other property are marked with visible and invisible tags to help identify them if recovered.

PCSO Dan Chesterman said: "If an item of property isn't marked then it is much more difficult to identify it, especially if there is no unique identification number.

"We are hoping to run more of these events in the future."
